Our flight, scheduled for 1.25am, got away just a little
late and we settled in to attempt some napping.
We weren’t terribly successful, which caught up with me in a rather
embarrassing way under stress later in the morning!
The pilot managed to flap the wings a little harder and we
touched down in Kuala Lumpur spot on time.
It was so humid that the handrails on the plane stairs were moist. By the time we reached the terminal, I felt
like I was going mouldy.
As John and Erin had planned a few hours sightseeing in the
city, and I planned a few hours relaxing in the airconditioned comfort of the
Plaza Premium Lounge, I took their backpacks and we went our separate
ways. That’s when the fun began. There was not a trolley in sight, so I
carried 3 x 7kg backpacks, one plastic bag full of coats (which have no useful
function in Kuala Lumpur) and one handbag.
I started by locating the ‘airside’ lounge. The nice gentleman there told me that because
I was going to be more than 6 hours between flights, I could go to the
‘landside’ lounge which is much better equipped. So I lugged the bags over to the lift, then
to a counter where I asked my way. They sent
me through to another counter and they sent me back to the first one. By that time my arms and my usual cheery
disposition were feeling the strain.
When I opened my mouth to ask my way, I suddenly found myself in
tears. Hmm. That wasn’t supposed to happen. Anyway, I decided to start again and found my
way back to the first lounge and asked in a wobbly little voice for better
directions. This time I got some better
instructions and finally made my way to the lounge. What an amazing difference a plate of eggs
and baked beans, a glass of juice and a cup of tea makes to the shape of one’s
face. I followed my breakfast with a can
of very cold Coke to celebrate.
I was going to have a shower, but the staff were still
awaiting delivery of the towels, so I snuggled into the comfy chairs and spent
a few hours napping, people watching, tea drinking and net surfing and before I
knew it, lunch time arrived. This time
the food choices included rice, noodles, salad and a number of scrumptious
dishes that improved my mood even more. I
went to check and found that the towels still hadn’t arrived, so I dug out my
little Japanese hand towel and headed off to the showers with that.
When I came out of the shower, John and Erin had returned
from their sightseeing and were sitting waiting for me. The had enjoyed their sightseeing trip and
had a great time browsing around in Little India. The shopping has begun!

We had a bit of time to wait before our next flight, so just
took it easy for a while and at 3.00pm we were finally on our way to
Japan. The flight was mostly smooth -
with a small section of eyebrow-raising turbulence – and we arrived in Osaka at
about 10.15pm, 20 minutes ahead of schedule.
Immigration and customs were conducted with the usual
Japanese manners and efficiency, the hotel shuttle bus was in the right place
at the right time, check in was quick and easy and we showered and fell asleep
as soon as our heads hit the pillows.
